ANSYS Seismic Analysis Using The Response Spectrum Method.
Overview
This course covers seismic analysis using the Response Spectrum (RS) method in ANSYS. The course is intended for engineers and designers who have a working knowledge of ANSYS for solving static problems, and want to extend this knowledge to analysing structures under seismic loads.
The course will be based on traditional style of teaching using sufficient examples, and with emphasis on application of ANSYS, rather than on theory. Minimal knowledge on seismicity will be required, but a sound knowledge of structural analysis principles and finite element techniques will be assumed.
The course will cover the following topics:- Definitions and explanations of basis terms used in seismic analysis
- Understanding the response spectrum curve and its relevance to seismic analysis in the UK
- Considerations while developing the finite element model
- Modal solution and its relevance to seismic analysis
- Types of spectrum analysis methods and understanding the various options available
- Calculations of stresses, displacements and accelerations
- Methods of mode combinations
- Understanding the concept of missing mass
- Combination of seismic and gravity results
- Acquisition and postprocessing of results
- Checks that can be done at various stages of the analysis.
The course will begin with a short introduction on the structuring of an ANSYS analysis. A number of styles will be shown, including the one adopted by the consultant. The participant will be left to choose the style which best suits him or her.
