ANSYS Seismic Analysis Using The Time History Method.
Overview
This course covers seismic analysis of structures using the Time History method in ANSYS. The course is intended for engineers and designers who are familiar with the response spectrum method, and have a need for results not available through a response spectrum analysis.
The course will be based on traditional style of teaching using sufficient examples, and with emphasis on application of ANSYS, rather than on theory. Knowledge on general seismicity, basic principles of structural dynamics and finite element techniques will be assumed.
The course will cover the following topics:- Understanding the input history and the types of histories that can be used
- Rules governing the use of artificial time histories
- Considerations while developing the finite element model
- Mode superposition method
- Direct integration method and understanding the various options available
- Accounting for initial conditions
- Acquisition and postprocessing of results
- Generating secondary response spectra
- Checks that can be done at various stages of the analysis.
The course will begin with a short introduction on the structuring of an ANSYS analysis. A number of styles will be shown, including the one adopted by the consultant. The participant will be left to choose the style which best suits him or her.
